Fitness Friday: These Boots Were Made for Walking / by Donna Olivia Owusu-Ansah

Its the most wonderful time of the year!

Its also the holiest and busiest time of the year for Christians across the globe, myself included. In a addition to a Good Friday Seven Last Words of Christ service I attended to support two of my sister preachers, I had to complete my sermon for Sunrise Service on Resurrection Sunday and get my nails done and hair cut. I also wanted to get some exercise today because I skipped Thursday’s  workout to attend to a beloved patient at end of life. I’m trying to re-establish my workout routine with 3-4 workouts per week and with only two logged, I needed to get moving.

All things considered, my workout would have been the first thing to get cut from the list. Sunday is coming and the people of God will be anticipating a WORD. So Instead of cutting my workout, I adjusted. For the first time since Spring made her appearance we had a perfect 60° Spring day so after getting my hair cut I made my way to the park. I played my audio Bible and took a leisurely 30 minute walk around the park in my dress, cardigan and boots. Breathing the fresh air, moving my body, and seeing God’s creation while listening to my Scripture text was embodied sermon preparation, which is my preferred method. A few times I paused and wrote a note in my phone because I had a revelation about the text. By the time I opened up my computer I had my outline, introduction and points. What was just unclear jumbled notes with no sense of direction this morning God put together into a clear and concise message of hope and action for God’s people.
