“It’s not how you start but how you finish.”
Truer words have never been spoken. I was supposed to start my day at 8am with an All State group run with the fabulous ladies of North, Central and South Jersey Black Girls Run. It would have been my first group run in about a year and I was looking forward to it. My accountability partner and I planned to log our miles together. Instead I woke up at 5am with a headache that was worse than yesterday. I skipped the run, took some Aleve and rested. I was trying to get myself together for a family outing in NYC.
By 10:30am, I was feeling much better. By 1:00pm, we were on a New Jersey Transit train to NYC. We started the day at the 911 Memorial, walked to and halfway over the Brooklyn Bridge, took the subway to Times Square where we frolicked until dinner time. By 10:00pm when we arrived home, I had closed my calorie burn ring on my Apple Watch and logged at least six miles in the city. I didn’t make it to the group run, but I definitely wasn’t sedentary. Bonus: our daughters walked the entire time! We all had an active and fun day!
The lesson for me today is to make movement and activity a lifestyle. Whether formal at the gym or informal like a family outing to NYC, as long as I’m active, when and where don’t really matter.
