You shall love the Lord your God with all of your deep emotion, and with the essence of your being, and with your whole beautiful body, and with all of your knowing; and your melanin magic sister as yourself.

Black women are living under the weight of structural oppression, yet there are too few resources available that promote physical renewal, emotional restoration, and spiritual replenishment for Black women. For this reason, Donna Owusu-Anash wrote Loves..Regardless as a love and spirit offering to Black women. In Loves…Regardless, Donna Owusu-Ansah writes “In this present moment, where Black women are fighting feverishly against the triune evils of racism, sexism, and classism, I felt it necessary to offer this work to bolster the souls, hearts, and minds of my sisters in the struggle.”

Donna’s work and voice is grounded in the wit and wisdom of Black women like her late grandmother Anne Spencer and the brilliant author and ethnographer Zora Neale Hurston. She has always found sanctuary in the company of Black women. Her prayer is that readers would find sanctuary in the pages of Loves…Regardless. This book of forty devotions catalogued according to Alice Walker’s definition of womanism: loves dance, loves Spirit, loves folk, loves herself, includes Scripture, a love offering based on Owusu-Ansah’s life experience, questions that provoke a deeper love of God, self, and Black women, and a single sentence prayer that can be memorized and prayed throughout the day. Loves…Regardless is a must read book and vital resource in the spiritual practices of Black women.

Feel the Love for Loves…Regardless

“Beautifully written devotional. The author was candid, transparent and relatable. All women, but especially black women, will relate to many of her life stories. I highly recommend this devotional.”

“In the midst of a pandemic, racial injustice, and political strife, Loves . . . Regardless, by Rev. Donna Owusu-Ansah, comes with restoring power. This is a womanist devotional book written specifically for Black women, but, as a white woman, I also found sustenance in Rev. Donna’s inspiring devotions. Although I can never understand her experiences of racism, I can identify with her experiences of sexism and can grow in my anti-racist work from reading her reflections and those of other Black women. True to womanism, this book centers Black women but works for the wholeness of all people and all creation.

“I love this devotional! It’s a beautiful way to get spiritually reconnected, and because the author writes in such a relational way, it feels like it was written by a great friend just for me!”
